I accidentally left a candle burning all night :( and now there is some minor smoke damage to the wall. Any tips on how to clean it properly?

I did that in my bathroom. I would NOT wash off. I had to paint over it.

Mr Clean will get most of it off but you will probably have to paint too. In the future try soot-free candles. If you would like to check out a brand visit www.mycandlefarm.com. I live a very low ceiling house, with these candles I have no problem with soot.

This happened to a friend. Smoke damage from a fire. She was told to either paint or (she chose the following suggestion) wash the area with IVORY FLAKES. It worked. The areas that were washed were aromatic and shinny. Give it a try. Cheaper than painting.

It's soot and it doesn't clean, it smears. I couldn't find a product that would and tried a bunch. We painted. I also don't buy candles that aren't soot free any longer. I would recommend you don't either.
