Why does my hard drive or DVD Writer Disappear ?

Its either one or the other that goes out.
They share the same ribbon too.
I have always had this setup.
Why is this happening now?

Are you using Windows XP or Vista?

Since you never said, I can only suggest you to scan your computer for viruses
