Bill Walsh is a legend in football.
He is the father of the West Coast Offense which completely changed the face of pro ball on both sides.
Defenses had to adjust just to accomodate those quick out passes.

In my eyes, he was the best coach ever.
then again; I'm a Niner fan...always have been.

I'm a Cowboy fan and still recognize the genius of Bill Walsh. He has a place in the Greatest Coach discussion.

Even the most venomous Farty-Whiner haters have to admit he had an enormous impact on the sport.

Look at all the coaches he influenced as well.
I can't say he was "the" best, but he left big footprints across the NFL landscape.

Walsh was not only a great coach but an innovator. His west coast offense, and the many versions there of, revolutionized offense football. And look at all the head coaches currently in the NFL that were Walsh trained. I'd put him in the top 3 ever.

You can't claim one coach as the best ever. Now...(just a thought) if all the greats coached at one time...then you can argue which one coach is the greatest of all time. But Bill Walsh IS definitely considered a mentor and a "top 5" for the way he overhauled the NFL with his "west-coast" offense in the 80's.

Yes, he was a master of the draft.

Taking Joe Montana on the 3rd round and Jerry Rice as the 16th overall (Rice should have been a top 3), among the best ever at their positions, were the best steals ever.

But it takes more than that to be a good coach (for example Jim Mora brought Manning, Reggie Wayne and Edge James and nothing happened), he was a visionary of the game dominating the league against powerful teams like the Bears, the Giants and the Redskins.

He was one of the greatest, probably top 5. I would say top 5 are Number 1. Vince Lombardi Number 2. Paul Brown Number 3. Chuck Knoll Number 4. Tom Landry Number 5. Bill Walsh. Of course that is my opinion and there will be many out there.

Bill Walsh....the best coach ever... No.

Strictly NFL, you think Laundry, Lamardi, Knox.

Add college, you have Joe Pa, Bobby, etc.

He is one of the best yes...the best No. Too many good coaches over the history to say that.

He is one of three coaches on the All-Time NFL team. It is hard to quantify such things. There is no greatest just greats. I remember watching those 49er teams in the 80's, it was like poetry when they were on top their game. It was like as close to perfection as football could get. The way they used to make teams look like they did not even belong on the same field. Just ridiculous.

The man was definitely a genius. As far as I'm concerned, he was the best football coach of all time. John Wooden was the best basketball coach, and Dan Gable was the best wrestling coach.
