My friend got an MIP and was charged with having a fake ID - he lives in Mississippi. He was planning on going to law school, how will this affect his chances?

Having a misdemeanor itself would probably not be an automatic rejection....

BUT, depending on how recently it occurred, and the nature of the offense, some lawschools could exclude him.

In the example, having a fake ID is often considered a crime of "moral turpitude" -- something that would be an ethics violation for an attorney, And that would be looked at much more severely than, for example, getting drunk in public.

I think he would not have a problem getting into law school

The big issues are
1 - could he get licensed in his state to practice law after law school with a record and

2 would he be hired by a law firm with his record

Those are the things your friend needs to research before going to law school

The 30 day jail sentence is probably for adults. It could be waived for a juvenile. Yes, a judge can reject a plea bargain.

depends on the school if they have you sign something that you consent to a background check then maybe but otherwise he could sue for discrimination based on his record
