Actuallu the phrase was part of a western song. The words in part I'm and old cow hand from the Rio Grande. But I never punched a cow cause I don't know how. (repeat lines) yippee yippee yaihay kiayay Then other words I can't remember. Several country and western singers sung it including but not limited to Roy Rodgers, Gene Autry, Tom Mix (i think but that was before my time)

It is an old cowbay call. It is featured in an old cowboy song, which lyrics I remember, but title I do not. It sang...Yippie-Ki-Yi-AY, git along little doggies, it`s your misfortune and none of my own. Yippie Ki-Yi Yay, git along little doggies, You`re gonna make wyoming your home. Bruce`s version is just a shortened version.

It's something that cowboys say in the rodeo, allegedly, I'm pretty sure its a thing of the past, or just a stereotype of cowboys. It's fun to say, though. I agree.

It doesn't mean anything, it is just a catch phrase they gave to Willis to make him look "bad ***" in Die Hard. Like Terminator "Hasta La Vista Baby" (except that does mean something)
