I have so many friends who seem to complain about everything going on in their lives and feeling depressed because they wished they had someone else's life or they're always comparing their lives to someone elses. why can't they just realized how blessed they are to have all the things they have!

Because they don't live in the present. They hold onto the past and fear the future. And some people are all about themselves. Everybody is to a point, but, you have to care about others, to let ill feelings go.

Personality disorders, behavioural abnormality, maladaptive defenses is seen in people who convince themselves that their happiness will be achieved through material things or if they compete to have what their friends have. Even though they may not realise it for a while they could be living a lie for years and this is when they begin to feel unhappy. True happiness I have learned is found in the appreciation of the little things like "taking the time to really look at the blue sky and breath the sun rays for a long moment; cuddling in bed for an extra 5 minutes in the morning; eating your favorite desert etc... And, not necessarily forcing happiness where there aren't any. To begin the process of finding ones own goodness, meditation and chakra cleansing is recommended. Those who have failed to ever perform a cleansing are still filled with the grey matter that will linger within them forever, and those who refuse to believe that behavioural therapy takes part in all reinvention effort toward the self will not ever know true happiness, or true health.

Our wish list is endless.. we need to have a control over ourselves we are never satisfied with what we have.. we keep wishing for more.. we couldn't understand the fact that money & things are not everything.. theres something beyond that also.. some people are satisfied with only a few things while sometimes a million earner wouldn't be satisfied one need to understand that he will have to go one day from this life... and they couldn't carry that all with them.. they will have to leave this all back here only... this is a fact that without money and those extra things its difficult to lead life... but people misconstrue this and start thinking they need to have maximum comforts & luxuries and to get these comforts & luxuries they keep on struggling... struggling day & night to earn more... and buy those comforts... and they are successful also.. but sadly they are not able to use those comforts as with that time they have some new plans in mind and what more money .. more needs... its a vicious circle.. only theres one way out... understand the truth!!

It's called saturation. Marketing and Peer pressure is bombarding us non stop with needs, we didn't know we had.
A myth is, that you have to be dissatisfied, to change things, the best inventors where very satisfied, contend people. When you are young, your brain is still not working properly, until you reach 25, when the frontal lobes mature and give you the checks and balances, you need for being more contend. But please, keep the blessed out, sounds to much like religion.

It seems to be Human Nature- because I notice the same thing- too. "The Grass is always greener..."-syndrome, is a common complaint amongst us humans... -Who never are satisfied what they HAVE- until they either LOSE IT, or are GRAPHICLY SHOWN how GOOD they have it. Let's face it, we ALL take WAY too much for "granted"...and the truely LUCKIEST people around us- are those who can thank God for his Blessings, and not have anything more to ask. :)

All the progress in this world was possible only becuase some body needed something better. Dissatisfaction is the only method we have for inching forward.

I agree with the jhon K's answer. Without dissatisfaction one will not strive for better. Of course, we have to be thankful for all the things we have and know how forturnate we are. But that should not prevent us from striving for betterment.
