the earth is not hanging, it is traveling or hurtling or whatever term you want to use, it is spining, while circling the sun while the sun circle the galaxy..while the galaxy is hurtling.. Im no expert but lemme try here... The Earth is a globe.. Gravity comes from mass, the bigger and more dense and object the stronger the gravity.. The center of the Earth is the densest part of Earth therefore gravity pulls objects towards its center.. so no matter where you are you are being pulled towards the center.. no real up or down, and that goes for space too, up or down is relative to your perspective.. and excluding anti matter or dark matter etc.. etc.. gravity is exclusive to mass.. and does not reside in empty space.. hope that helps, and earth covered in water 85% i always thought it was 2/3 .. but things change.. your into Earth Science?? google the expanding earth theory it is really cool!!

It is held by the Earth's gravitational pull. Since the planet and the oceans have such a large combined mass, their gravitational attraction is very strong. However, if it was't, the oceans would spin off of the earth, not flow down, because in space there is no down. It's basically life in free fall, so everything is at 0 Gs, the only gravity is between objects of matter.

And for visual supplementation, feast your eyes on this.

Gravity pulls thing towards earth and there is no up, down, left, or right in space. Air pressure also helps to keep things down

The earth's gravity is pulling the water toward the center and the sun's gravity is keeping the Earth in orbit.

It is due to gravity and other several factors such as atmospheric pressure that prevents the oceans or body of water from flowing down.

In space there is no direction and no such thing we refer (on earth)) to as "up" and "down".As there is no"down" in space ,it does not flow down.
All the solids, liquids and gases on earth have weight and hence they all are pulled towards the centre of the earth by its gravitational force .That is the reason.

Isn't that new sonar net fantastic?!? It's amazing how the governments control even the tides on our world!

Uh, yeah, the reason we "hang" in space is that we're orbiting Sol. Where else would we be hanging? There is no "up" in space.

The Earth's gravity is created by it's core. Everything, magma, rock, water, air is being held onto the earth by it.
