If you live in the LA area, you could always invite Casting Directors to your Play or Showcase! Then if any Casting Directors are interested and call you for an interview or audition, you could ask them if they know of any agents who are accepting new clients. This is how I got my first agent, through a Casting Director. There is no better way to get a great agent!!!!
The following link is to the "Casting Society Of America". Every Casting Director who is worth ANYTHING is a member! No Joke, just "Google" it. Anyways, here is the link to invite Casting Directors to your play or showcase........

You don't get an agent until you are ready to act at the professional level. Agents are in business to make money. They know that they can only make money with the people who actually book. You have to be an excellent actor or extremely good looking or forget it.

there is no Agent to help you unless they "smell" money from your future. So keep acting without shower until you are "smelt". Make sure being "smelt money" rather than anything else; even Liz Taylor Perfume couldn't help. I am in your shoes too.

Get really, really famous and the agents will come looking for you.

Perform, perform, perform. Agents find actors in theatre productions. If you are not performing, they can't find you.
When you are performing, mail your headshot/resume to the Agents and invite them to the production, don't forget to leave comps (complimentary tickets).
