there is no time before your period that you can have "free" sex all woman ovulate at different itme throghout there cycle
it is more comman for a woman to ovulate about 14 days after the first day of her period but that is not set in stone some woman ovulate while they are menstrating.so use a condom or get the pill

You can basically get pregnant any time of the month so keep using protection. It doesnt matter whether you are on your period or not.
