Yep- sure do! I was unarmed and survived an attempted rape and physical assault (and my attacker had a knife) by using my wits...brains, if you will. I'd prefer not to go into details about the whole thing in such a public forum, but yes- it is possible for a woman to "outsmart" her attacker. I know, because I've done it. It takes a tremendous amount of an ability to stay completely mentally and emotionally calm during an attack...but I found out that I have this ability and it helped me to be able to think rationally and clearly so that I could formulate a plan to escape it. Not everyone has the ability to stay calm in a crisis, though. And sometimes even those who do cannot thwart an attack. But it's truly amazing what the human mind can do when it is faced with the "fight or flight"/self-preservation response. A lot of things are possible when "survival mode" kicks in.

Not lately, but I've certainly heard of quite a few armed women who successfully defended themselves from an attacker.

I doubt it. During carnival once when I was tipsy some female cop thought it was opportune to arrest me.
I was pissed because I was like why me the whole f city is drunk on the street at carnival.
She tried to go all Karate and judo or me but guess what, bodies dont break as easily as planks and Judo wont help much if you are beeing held upside down.
I admit that I work out though. Somebody unfit she might actually have been able to flip or something.
On the other hand you hear regularly of dimwits snatching the guns of female officers (and sadly sometimes giving them back bullets first). If female cops cant defend themselfs which woman can ?

Yep.....eye gouges or eye rakes, head butts, shin kicks, groin kicks, elbow smashes to the nose, palm heel to the nose, side knee stomps, and stamping on the top of an attackers feet are all fight stopping moves. In a street fight the one who is unafraid to use the most devestating techniques will win. One of the coolest weapons you can carry is a hardback book. You can use two hands and push a sharp corner into their eye sockets, throat, solar plexus, groin, kidneys or temples, plus its completely legal to carry a book around.

I have, I took a self defense course in college and used the "tactics" provided to get myself out of several situations.. I worked at night at a dept. store after closing a man approached me in the parking lot and when he got too close I kicked him in the "balls" and hit him with the hardest part of my elbow in the face... I've also used my anti theft device "the club" to beat a man away from me... He was trying to get into my car ! That was armed though.... I would highly recommend taking a course, it's very good for a young woman to know how to defend herself in any given situation..
Good luck

Yes, many. One of the most recent happened in Atlanta, Ga. A man broke into a woman's home after already killing another man. He held her at gunpoint and threatened her life. The woman stayed calm ont he outside and started talking to the assailant about his life. The story ended with him turning himself in and thanking the woman for helping him. Also, in Columbia, SC an elderly woman beat off her attacker with her shopping cart and her purse attracting the attention of other shoppers who called police. When a woman stays calm, uses what she has to fight with she can get away . It doesn't always end up as well as these 2 accounts but women should always fight and never give in.
