Yes, Transylvania is a part of the old country of Romania or Rumania ... I don't know what it's called now, or even if it uses the name Transylvania any more ... but it was used in the 'olden times' and at least until the Berlin Wall came down in 1989. That may be why some people tell you it's 'real' (it DID exist as a real area in a real country at one time in the past) and others tell you that it's not real ... because it may not 'exist' under the 'name' Transylvania any more. Both answers are 'perfectly correct' ... which is 'weird' but possible.

Yes it very real, or at least I hope so since I live here. Transylvania is more like a county and the town I live in is Brasov, Romania. I am only about 10 minutes from the Castle Bran. It is quite beautiful here being smack dab in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains. Here are some beautiful photos of my area.

Yes its is part of Romania, Just like Vlad Dracula was a real Romanian prince who distinguished himself in his fighting against the turks, his specialty was impaling them onto a wooden stake.

I believe it is a real part of Romania, yes. Whether all the legends about it are real, that's another thing entirely!

transilvania does exist in fact... i am romanian so i know what i am talking about. it's more than a county, it's actually the central region of romania. vlad tepes or dracula actually never lived there... he lived in tara romaneasca which is a region that is separated from transilvania by a chain of mountains... it's true that he killed many of his enemies by making use of torture and that's why he is named the impalor. romanians never call him dracula. the name dracula actually is a misunderstanding or a bad translation of his name. his father was part of a legion called the dragons,so afterwards he was nicknamed son of the dragon. dragon is written in romanian the same way as in english, but they translated it as dracon, which in old romanian meant devil. that's why nowadays people call him dracula...
