everyone's stupid to think there will be equal opportunity...period. The truth is, most positions (except for brain surgeons and rocket sceintists) are not that complicated to do. The only difference between who gets chosen for the job is usually who "looks" like they can handle the job. And that's where stereo typing comes in. Affirmative action CAN work....i think there needs to be more implementation than just numbers and figures.
ie: i live in Atlanta (majority blacks)...but look at managerial spots (even in warehouse) that doesn't rely on any complications or education...it's majority whites. that's where affirmative action can level the playing field. It's not about competance because alot of these bosses are too stupid to know how to run production....yet, they're a friend of a friend of a white manager.

It's pretty obvious that equal opportunity with affirmitive action cannot be. It's based on the premise that a more qualified person will get bypassed so that a quota can be met. What's equal about that? It was meant to help minorities get a foot in the door and have opportunities that would have been denied without some type of help. I think it helped. There is no such thing as equal opportunity and no one can guarantee it.

Because there are a lot of racist people out there. If the government favors and goes for affirmative action then that kinda sets an example for the american people. Of course it won't solve anything, but it could help out. most of those KKK people grew up in a time where the government didn't make any effort to stop discrimination. I think that affirmative action is a great idea.

Affirmitive action was set up in the 1960s, when minorites, especially African Americans, were trodden upon. But in today's world, everyone is relatively equal. I do not think that AA is useful in today's world, it is reverse discrimination against whites that bases itself on color rather than skill and does exactly what it wanted to be undone.

It's not equal at all. A black person or a Hispanic person will get a job before a white person with the same skills. It's the same for women. A woman will get a job before a man of similar skill does. That's just how it works. It's wrong and outdated.

its legislative descrimination, basically a legal form of descrimination. if it were the other way around, there would be riots. however, they need all the help they can get.
