Should our governement legalize the most popular drug ever?
Only honest opinions, please no rhetorical answers with information that has never been proven by ANY respectable medical association. Every year, hundreds of millions of tax-payer's dollars goes into arresting and trying people in marijuana-related offenses, while real criminals are out committing crimes. Also, marijuana is an excellent cash crop which could produce great revenue for investors. Every year tobbacco and alcohol kill hundereds of thousands. Marijuana? 0... I can't understand why anyone would criminalize marijuana while drunks kill innocent people in car accidents every day. In fact, 700,000 U.S. citizens are arrested every year on marijuana related charges, when policemen could be doing something legitimate. You decide....

I say legalize it. It's nearly harmless, but like anything else. To much of it is not good. Same goes for alcohol, tobacco, caffiene etc., yet they are all legal. Alcohol is more of a gateway drug and much more dangerous in every way possible than weed. Plus the taxes on it would generate a lot of federal and state income. Not to mention all the good that comes from the hemp plant: paper, clothing etc. And like you said, we waste so much time and money on legal and jailing fees, all for weed... That's money that could be better spent somewhere else.

its ridiculous to me that even though it kills less people than aspirin (somewhere around 200) a year its still illegal. But the biggest problem i have with it being illegal has nothing to do with how few it kill. Don't mistake this for an actual war on drugs, this is a war on personal freedom, when the government can tell you what you can and can't do to yourself in your own home it is an invasion of privacy. We must stop this invasion of personal liberty and stop the movement toward this fascist road the f#&*ing GOP pigs would have us move to. the war on drugs will only drive the drugs deeper under ground, why do they want us buying pot from someone we don't know when we could go to our local gas station and pay for it knowing exactly where it was grown and harvested?

I don't see why not.

It takes away pushers, smugglers, gang violence over it. It would clear out a lot of jail space that's being taken up by people in their on possesion.

There are definately some benefits to legalizing it, however there are also drawbacks, but I do think the pros out weigh the cons.

It would be taxed just like alcohol and tobacco, because those taxes are basically a sin tax(which means if we enjoy it and it's not good for you it's a sin). Stupid, but that's the way the world turns.

I agree that pot should be legalized, but I can't believe that nobody has ever died as a result of someone being stoned. It could mean an excellent source of tax revenue, and lower crime rates.

A - smoking marijuana is still smoking. You still get cancer.
B - driving after a joint is driving more impaired than after a beer, the difference is, you don't know it.

You say "I have smoked so much in my life i cant even guess, and i am just fine". So you think you won't get sick because you haven't? My mother is the only one of 5 girls who smoked, she is the only one who didn't live well into her 90s. One passed at 95, one at 94, one at 92, and one just had her 98th birthday. She had a type of stroke that wiped our her short-term memory for the last 4 years of her life, and had to be in a home despite the fact she was otherwise healthy. It was totally smoke related. She died of a massive brain hemorage, and autopsy confirmed the smoking related damage the first time, and the smoking related damage that killed her. But, at 80, she had still been saying the same thing, the exact same thing you said.
But, it's your life to throw away.

The only reason why it was made illegal was the creation of a synthetic drug that had the same medicinal purpose without the side effects.

Prohibited drugs are not to be legalized because it will affect the whole citizen of one country. The government will not allow it to happen because the entire population will be affected.
