My mother quit her job at Kroger due to moving, she gave them notice of it as well but when she moved they claimed they didn't know and gave her the run around about her papers. They didn't want her to leave because she was one of the hard workers, so much that they put on her file that she "walked out" after they tried to convince her to return but our new home was way too far for her to drive everyday and the pay wasn't all that great to begin with. Now she really needs those papers, how can we go about getting them when Kroger refuses to do so? Can we take any legal action to make them hand them over or is there some higher place to get her resignation papers? Thank you in advanced.

Ha! Ha! Don't you see? Kroger is the one that messed up...BIG TIME.

By refusing to accept resignation papers, they have no evidence that she actually quit, and if I were her, and they were going to play that game, I would file for unemployment benefits.

The employment commission is VERY familiar with the types of games that employers play...and them saying she walked out, won't cut it.

Your mother doesn't need any papers. Very, very few employers, especially for low-level positions, hand you documentation to give you evidence that you resigned.

What are resignation papers? If you are speaking of her letter of resignation, she should have taken a copy of that before she turned it in. The company is under NO obligation to give her any papers of any type.

This seems like it was all handled wrong. Most companies have a form called "voluntary resignation statement" which your mother should have had a sit down meeting with her boss to complete this form and agree on her last date of employment.

Sorry, you can't sue anyone for this and you are not going to be a millionaire over it.

well they can't keep her hired if she doesn't want to be otherwise they will have to keep paying her and i doubt kroger will do that. what kind of papers does she need from them? she needs to make sure she has copy of the resignation papers and move on and apply somewhere else, explain to them what happened. kroger cannot force her to stay.

There don't need to be any papers to quit a job. Two weeks notice is a courtesy not a requirement. They may still only confirm her work dates when people check references so not a problem.

wow, now I having those kind of experience. My new employer needs me at 13th august, but my current employer wants me until august 24th. So what I do now is to make sure that my works is finished, make a explanation about my current job to my replacement. And I try hard to make my current employer feels okay if I leave at august 13th.
I think it is our right to quit the job but we have to finished our current responsibility.

They can refuse it if you aren't giving proper notice. But as long as you give the notice stated in your work contract, they have to accept it. She needs to talk to HR. If the local HR is giving her a hard time, she needs to go hire up.

she should review their policy because most job applications say that she can leave without giving them a reason and they can also fire her without giving her a reason
