The word purpose presupposes a Creator as in "we were created for a purpose".

“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell (noted philosopher, mathematician and Nobel Laureate)

If there is a God, it seems to me that the first order of business would be to seek God, i.e. go to the source. For if there is a God, it makes sense that it is He who put this great need for purpose into our human nature in order to point us to seek Him.

If there is no God, nothing including reproduction can be the purpose of life. Evolution is a mindless process and cannot give purpose to us any more than a weather front can give purpose to a raindrop.

Well think about it more like this. The universe is constructed of matter, which either gains or burns energy under correlating circumstances.
Therefore the purpose of all things is to function under the mechanism called universal evolution. This evolution is merely energy interacting with each other, in the universes perpetual cause and effect system. Universal evolution is
occurring right now in every single position.

That itself is the purpose of the universe, we fall in line with that same purpose. We can not contradict it we can not alleviate it, if we do contradict the universes purpose of gaining and losing energy, then we do eat, therefore we can do none of the following, work, reproduce, live.

The question is not what is the purpose of reproduction, because it is mandatory, the question is what is the purpose of universal evolution.
Universal evolution is this (among other things): The simple manifesting into the complex.
That's were my present knowledge stops.

no way. my purpose in life is to have FUN! if i happen to pop out a couple of kids on the way through, than it's all good.

people put such emphasis on family and success being the true measures in their life, and it makes them paranoid of failing. i think that as long as you had a good time, have very few regrets, and follow your heart, you have had a wonderful life.

some people feel the need to have children because they're natural nurturers, and all the power to them. i just don't need a couple of rugrats to validate my existance.

No, it is not the purpose of life. Look above. You will be getting closer to the purpose once you realize that the source of our existence is exalted and lofty.

It is the biological purpose, but one can have numberless purposes in his life. If you want a good life, do something that will surpass it. Men are mortal but ideas and achievements are immortal.
