Tell them the truth, but tell it according to their age and on a need to know basis. You don't have to go into a lot of detail, but be truthful. I always told my kids anything they asked. My daughter often said I told her too much, so that's why I said don't go into a lot of detail. Be forthright and don't act embarassed. After you answer their questions ask them if they understand and if there is anything else they would like to ask. Also reassure them that they should come to you with any questions and not their friends. Whatever you do don't laugh or make them feel guilty.

It depends upon the age of the child who is asking. If the child is under age 4, it is ok to just say it is when a married man and his wife, connect their bodies together between their legs. An older child with some knowledge about the human anatomy and names for body parts should be told the correct names for the vagina and the penis and told exactly that intercourse is: the connecting of a male with a female by putting his penis into her vagina. It is always best to tell the facts in an unemotional manner, so that the child does not become confused or negatively impacted by the information.

Depending on the age of the child. I would suggest getting some books on the subject. They have really nice books you can both read and look at together. From books for very small children to the bigger kids. Explain things as you go along. Let them know to ask if they have any questions.

Regardless, it's uncomfortable. So just grin and fake like it's no big deal. I did. :)

It depends on the age of the child--small children dont need a long lecture on the facts of life.If you need to talk to a son or daughter and dont know how there are plenty of parent and child books out there for help.

You don't say how old the child is. It matters. You can talk about it as the way people reproduce and share love when they are married . We bought books that showed age-appropriate illustrations and explained what sex is for and that babies come from it.

A lot depends on the age of the child. This is what they mean by "age appropriate" sex education. There are probably books about this and if you really have questions, you should probably consult the experts by reading a book.
