He used to sleep 12 to15 hours a night But when he was 4 months he started getting up 3 to 6 times a night. Now i'm lucky if he goes down at midnight and sleeps till 4 am. I was told that as he gets older he would sleep better. Why is it backwards for my son? He is constantly screaming as well. he gets checked out monthly and I ahve been taking him in as well betweeen his scheduled appointments but the drs say he is healthy. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, I have been keeping him up during the day (no napping) but that doesn't work. He just gets even more cranky.

He might be overstimulated. Try sticking to a schedule at night-- warm bath, rocking, low lights, etc. This can be hard if you or his father work late because the temptation to keep him up and play with him can be pretty big. Also try to make sure you aren't doing too many activities during the day. If your running around with him all day every day it could be too overwhelming for him. You don't have to stay home and be a hermit, but remember that he's still little and there's only so much he can take in a day.

He might be cranky because of not having his naps. At this age he should be napping 3-4 times a day. Lack of sleep makes everyone cranky, and when overtired makes it harder to sleep at night. He might be teething. Try giving him Hyland's Teething Tablets and Infant's Tylenol. The tablets are all natural and disolve in baby's mouth.

At that age they still need to nap for about 4 hours during the day. Mine is super cranky at night if he gets under 3.
Have you started solids? That helps with the crankiness....helps them feel more satisfied.

All babies are different , no two are alike. Could he be teething already? Are you trying different foods that might be upseting his belly? Also is he getting any cereal to stick to his ribs to keep him asleep at night???
Give him a nice warm bath right before bed time. Play soothing quiet music in his room at night.
