The most impressive place in Washington to me is the Lincoln Memorial. A fitting tribute to our greatest President.

It's hard to go wrong by sticking to the Mall area. Call your Congressman to see about a White House or Capitol tour. The Smithsonian is filled with great stuff. The Vietnam Memorial is moving. The Jefferson Memorial is quite beautiful. Go up to the top of the Washington Monument.

And pick up a tourist book about the area. There are many more suggestions, and most are free.

Capitol Building
White House
Supreme Court
Library of Congress (world's largest collection of books)
National Museum of Natural History
National Museum of Art
National Air and Space Museum
Georgetown
Union Station (if you're hungry cause it has a big food court, but it can get crowded in there)
Lincoln Memorial
Jefferson Memorial
Vietnam Memorial
I haven't seen the World War 2 Memorial in Person, but it is probably worth checking out
