I want to supercharger my V6 firebird (Buick 3800). I'm not putting on the Eaton that is found on GTPs. Someone told me that since I have an auto trans, it will blow the tranny. Is that true? How much extra horsepower can I put on the trans before it blows and what can I do to make it handle the extra power?

not true for the most part. it depends on how much power you will be making, the condition of the transmission, and how you drive and maintain it.

Your stock transmission can take a lot of punishment before it goes to hell. I drive a S/C 3800 Bonneville SSEi and have no trouble, but my car also came stock as S/C. I've noticed a lot of people in my car club with stock non-s/c cars who are putting s/c on their 3800's. They don't change out the tranny and have absolutely no trouble. Although you're running a Firebird, I suggest you check out http://www.intense-racing.com/ . They specialize in 3800 series engines and may have the things you need to go way fast. Email Todd and ask him specifically what you should do. He's an expert on 3800's and nobody will give you a better answer than he can.

GM L60E transmission is not strong enough for the low end torque. Your 3800 engine has to high compression to supercharge sucessfully. And why not transplant a L67 engine?
