If it is metal, get a metal detector. I wouldn't kill the grass though cause in the time it takes to kill it, someone will have stomped it into the ground. Try cutting it really short with one of those rotary mowers. That way it won't go flying and get chopped up like with a motorized mower. If you really must kill it though, just fill our yard sprayer with white vinegar and go spray happy. It should completely die in a few day. In about a month, you can even lay down turf grass without any lingering effects.

get yer hands on a grass rake and go over the yard with it, inch by inch..... don't kill the grass.... your kids and dogs will have no place to play!... time for getting down on hands and knees if the rake doesn't find it..... be careful where you're stepping, too, in case it's small enuff to be pushed down into the soil and more lost..... I wish you much luck.....

I don't particulary like spiders but I tolerate them because they eat even nastier things like flies and earwigs. If they get too big or one is in my bedroom then I use the glass-and-card method to catch it and throw it out. I don't think there is any anti-spider spray that would deter them. If you really want to kill one, nothing beats a rolled-up newspaper.

Since the oil we pump out of the ground and refine into gasoline do you consider that to be organic because it came from the decomposition of organic matter?

Amonia or salt in high concetrations will kill grass.
You could also try very basic solutions such as Drano.

Put a plastic sheet over it. Then you can keep what you lost from escaping at the same time.
