Think about it: people fall into three categories: Religious, Atheist, and Agnostic.
Now everyone who is religious (and I'm talking about all religions, not just the judeo-christian ones) believes they are going somewhere good when they die. (I'm not neccesarily saying that they ARE going somewhere good when they die, I'm just saying they think they do.) They believe they are going to heaven or somewhere heaven-like, or being reincarnated, or whatever.
The atheists believe that when you die you just go into a hole in the ground. True, that's not quite as good as heaven, but its still really not all that bad. (again, I'm not saying the atheists are right in this belief, I'm just saying that's what they think)
The only people who should logically be scared to die are the agnostics, because they have no clue what's gonna happen to them when they die.
So my question is to all of my fellow non-agnostics: Why are you scared to die?

As an Agnostic - I am NOT afraid of dying... Sure, given a choice in the matter - I would PREFER to live for a LOT longer. But if I was to die soon, I would ACCEPT that as something that I am powerless to stop... NOT because I believe that it was "my time" (or that some "higher power" said so) - but because it is a NATURAL part of life!! If I am to be judged after that - then it will happen. And if all I am going to do is rot in the ground - then that will happen too ;););)

I don't think people are afraid of dying so much as they are afraid of the possible pain that could cause a death. Deep down, we non-agnostics have faith that we will go somewhere after we die but that's really no consolation. What we fear most is the cause of our demise. No matter how holy and religious, everyone is truly afraid of dying. In the literal sense.

I'm not a gnostic ,but to answer your question ,it's not so much as being afraid to die but leaving there love ones and the thought of what will happen after they die before the transition to heaven .may be there afraid of being judged by god and that if what they have done in there life will decide that they should go to hell rather then heaven, but i don't think any one really knows what will happen after you die

When you realize you are mortal, good christians and all seem to fear death. They must believe they are going to die. Or perhaps they fear the unknown. The unknown or unfamiliar causes a lot of grief in life ie prejudice etc. Imagine the fear of those people. I think as you get older you fear death less--after you get over the time when you realize you are mortal. Death is the end of everything you know and time for new beginnings. That's a lot for a lot of people.
Fear is illogical.

I am not really a religious person atheist or agnostic. Which I know technically make me an agnostic, but I think I lean more to atheism than anything, and I do not fear death if you think about it the atheistic ending is not so bad...

I'm not so much afraid of death as I am some of the ways of getting there. If I go peacefully and not in pain, I can handle it. It can't be any worse than the non-experience of being under heavy anesthesia during surgery. As far as being 'God fearing'... if God made me, and God is all perfect, then I have nothing to fear, as I must be a perfect being. If I am not a perfect being, then neither is my 'maker'; in which case, we'll both have a good laugh when my time comes...

I believe in a Heaven and God but there is always a part of you that wonders "Is there really a Heaven?" the fear in Death is not knowing what happenes afterwards. is there an after life? or do you just dissapear.
my fear is not being around comfort and people i love. non-existance i guess.

I just hate the thought of being in the ground so I may be cremated. It just gives me the creeps. I also am afraid to die because I don't want to leave my children behind!!

There is nothing wrong with death. no reason to be afraid.
it happens to all living things. what ever happens to one living organism happens to us all. how bad can it be. it just might be kewl or fun.
do you remember what life was like before you were born, ???? that is exactly what death will be like.
so why care if you die. you will not know it anyway, because you are dead.
the 4th category is the true one.
why care it does not matter.

We are afraid that we will miss something.
Plus, it is a great unknown. We have anecdotal tales of reincarnation (I, myself, had a past life regression and learned i was killed in a logging accident in 1947), but nothing concrete, thus the fear
