Allowing anyone to carry a gun is going to make the world a safer place? If the US didn't allow its citizens to arm themselves to the teeth in the first place, how would this help? How would you be able to function knowing that at any moment a person can pull a firearm on you?

Well, considering you made clear that you hate the United States, I'd say its a GREAT IDEA to have the right to carry concealed weapons.

Now why would someone who hates the United States, by your own statement in another post, want us to stop carrying weapons? Hhmmmmm....

We the people have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. That right shall not be infringed. Not allowing us to bear arms is an infringement and thus unconstitutional. The government does not "allow" us any of our freedoms. We the people "own" the government. They serve us, not the other way around. We also have certain rights that come from a higher power. Those rights cannot be denied for any reason, by any entity. Among those is the right to life. That is the right to defend our lives and the lives of our loved ones, or even your life, against anyone trying to take it. The criminal does not have the right to kill any of us. He only has the right to die when he tries. If you cannot handle these freedoms, I suggest you hide. Or move to a country more friendly to your mind set. And why would a law abiding citizen pull a firearm on you? Unless you are maybe mugging some old lady. That sounds like advanced paranoia.

Not just anyone is allowed to carry a weapon. Only criminals do that and criminals don't make the world safer.

Right to bear arms is allowed by the second amendment. But that right can be regulated (laws), but again criminals don't usually follow laws.

People are not armed to the teeth. I haven't seen too many RPG's or stinger missiles at the gun range lately.

The people having a concealed weapons permit, go through a background check. Their law abiding citizens, that's why they go through the hassles to get a permit.

Criminals in concealed carry states don't know who (legal permit) may have a sidearm. This has caused criminals who normally commit armed robbery to move to burglary or other types of crimes.

The only person I'd be concerned about pulling a gun on me, would be a criminal. And they were doing that before the shall issue laws came into effect.

If you really want to be concerned about something, look at how laws are enforced at the judicial level. Many criminals who are caught with firearms are supposed to go to prison, a lot do not. They get plea bargains, etc and go right back on the street. If the current laws we have on the books were enforced, this entire debate would be moot.

If you want to get pissed, look at the court room.

I've included a link that may answer your questions better than I have. I know a couple cops who like the shall issue laws, they state it does have an impact on crime.

Tom,

The gun laws our government keep adding do nothing to slow the criminals from getting weapons. All they do is slow the law abiding citizen from getting a weapon.

Some people hear 'Gun' and it's almost like a bad word. There's no law in the world that keeps people from carrying knives around and someone with a knife in a crowded place could certainly wreak havoc if they so chose.

My point is that the constitution allows for private citizens to bear arms. I enjoy that freedom and use it responsibly. If, at some point, I became irresponsible with it, the law would forbid me to bear arms, rightfully so. We shouldn't worry about the common citizen who might have a legal concealed pistol. What we need to worry about and take care of is the thugs out there who are committing the crimes and killing other humans.

Spoken like a true left wing Liberal Democrat. You should be happy people have a concealed weapon carry permit. They are only issued to law-abiding citizens. If some criminal with a gun is raping your wife or girlfriend, I think you would be so happy that someone with a gun would come to her defense. You will see that reasoning with a criminal doesn't work. Only force works in some circumstances. Side note: Did you know that it was announced by a British Muslim Cleric that it will be easy to enforce Sharia Law when they decide to proclaim it in England because all the guns have been confiscated from the law-abiding public. Scary!

If you and I have the right to carry a weapon, then we know that we are safer. Many cities and countries that have outlawed firearms now have a higher rate of gun crime than before. Law abiding people will not draw a weapon without a good reason. Criminals can and will have a weapon even if the law says they are not allowed to have one( they are criminals). The police cannot be everywhere to protect civilians.

"Allowing"??. You're already off to a bad start with how you phrased your question. It's not the government's job to "allow" anything. If I want to have a friggin gun, it's my right to do so. If the government gets close to trying to violate my god-given rights, that's when i buy even MORE guns.
I will not "allow" the government to boss me around, and having guns readily available helps to ensure this.
A mindset like yours, in which the government is a lofty, omnipotent entity is what gets you killed or enslaved, not guns.
The second amendment was mainly written to protect citizens from the government, not so much eachother. When guns are 100% forbidden I will fear the cops a hell of a lot more than a thug with a banned gun...

At any moment a criminal can pull a firearm on you, a knife, a baseball bat or a chainsaw. At any moment a man can rape a woman or a man for that matter. At any moment a carjacker can pull you out of your vehicle, drive away with your child and dump him/her in a ditch. At any time a person can protect themself with a legally owned firearm and save their life or the life of their loved one.

People around me have concealed weapons licenses, and I function just fine. 4-16-07 proved that despite all the legislation to keep guns out of the hands of those mentally incompetent doesn't always stop it. Whenever you idiot proof something, they creat a better idiot.
