Diatomacious Earth (DE) is an effective flea & insect control that can be spread on your lawn and around pet bedding areas. Here's a site that discuses using Horticultural Grade DE :

Biologic control using the beneficial nematode Steinernema carpocapsa is based on the fact that these nematodes parasitise the flea (and other insects) larvae and result in their destruction. The nematodes are applied as a spray to the ground. Application of the nematodes must be periodically repeated & is best suited for situations where the pet spends a high percentage of time outdoors & it's applied to shaded areas & would only be one part of a larger flea control program. This site has a lot more info on other flea controls (how to make a natural flea powder & shampoo):

Good luck! Hope this helps.
P.S.(Pennyroyal kills fleas, but be careful. Pennyroyal, Rue & Wormwood & some UNDILUTED essential oils may be too risky to use directly on pets & some pets have an adverse reaction even to Rosemary.) ORANGE, GRAPEFRUIT, LEMON & LIME OILS - derived from the peels of these citrus fruits, contain d-Limonene, which is lethal to fleas but safe for dogs.

Actually, I had the very same problem this year. By recomendations from my Vet, I bought an ant killer called, Over and Out at Home Depot......yes, an ant killer. I mentioned this to a friend and her vet told her the same thing, so I decided to try. The neat thing about this is that it also has the "frontline" used for fleas in it. I used it only once spreading it over my entire yard with a spreader. Also, I treated my dog for fleas using advantix and capstar together (both sold at the vet) to insure they did not leave him and get back into the yard. All three together removed all of my flea problems. Now I just treat him once a month with the Advantix and we are flea free!!!!

I've always put branches from eucalyptus trees in problem areas of the yard. Just let them dry out. Fleas and ticks don't like the smell. For the house, a small jar of eucalyptus oil from Long's for $5 or $6, soak a cotton ball (it will stain things) and hide them around, under the bed or the sofa, in the vacuum cleaner bag. Dusting & chemicals are dangerous. Natural is better, don't you think?

well not really but if you have the money and the time you could call a kind of exterminator service and ask them if they could spray your yard with some stuff the doesn't hurt people or animals if you have a dog or a cat

I have not tried this, but I have been told, by more than one source, that liquid Tide sprayed over your lawn, in a hose end sprayer, really works. My neighbor told me that the lawn service she uses, told her that. I also heard this from people where I work (landscape nursery center).

Diatomaceous earth. It's all natural and rips their little bodies open so they die a long death. Gotta reapply after it rains though.
