OK, the Doomsday Book was commissioned by William the Conquerer in 1086. It's purpose was to list all the property and wealthy land owners in England so William could assess taxes on the assets to fund his war efforts. One scribe took all the information and wrote it into 2 large books totaling more than 800 pages and did it in one years time. It was called the Doomsday Book because it was similar to the "End of Times" mentioned in the Bible.
