No one deserves to be insulted but if you have a unpopular opinion and you post it on the Internet, you are pretty much asking to be ridiculed.

Wow Edie, it must be flattering to have all these people come down from their high horses to grace you with such insightful answers!

In my humble, I seem to recall this country being founded on the might of the masses makes right... so maybe those of us with unpopular opinions DO deserve to be insulted and ridiculed... Maybe the really popular cults, oops! I mean religions, do deserve to be able to irradicate those of us who believe differently.

Well, maybe... but I prefer to believe that if people where to honestly walk a mile in someone else's they might be abe to think of debateable points rather than just insult what they don't understand.

Cheers!

Nope.

You have a right to respect from whatever group you are in (and we are all in at least one group, often several, from family to nation). Even a loosely-defined group (like internet posters) owes you basic respect. Every honestly-held thought-out opinion is a gift to the group, but nobody owes you agreement, or even an understanding of your opinion. The group also has a right to expect you to help it function well, so the way in which you express your opinion makes a difference (some ways can be disruptive or selfish).

You don't deserve to be insulted.

No, but it's likely to happen anyway.

But if you express that opinion by invalidating or demeaning another person or group of people, you're pretty much asking to be insulted.

I don't know if anyone "deserves" to be insulted, but there are things one can do to increase or decrease the likelihood of being insulted. And sometimes we can be insulted by things that aren't meant to be offensive; it's just not received the way it was intended for whatever reason.

Maybe they aren't insulting you, just giving you their unpopular opinion of your opinion and then you took them as insults. And it really also depends on what your unpopular opinion is; whether it is hate-based or radically prejudiced etc.

One thing for sure no one deserves to be insulted for whatever his/her opinions. However not everyone thinks the same way and this is a public forum so you have to accept the consequence the "freedom of speech".

I don't EVER remember seeing any of your unpopular opinions; so, I cannot speak specifically to that. I will say, however, that a lot of pagans hang out in here, NOT having unpopular opinions, per se, but just being evil. Christians are NOT robots. They are NOT perfect. They react to mean-spiritedness, to evil attacks on their Lord, etc. If you're in that group then you get what you get. If somehow you've wrongfully gotten lumped into that group, what can I say? Go play somewhere else.

Well, define "unpopular". Unpopular, like outright racist, degrading, or rude, or unpopular, like not widely shared? It makes a difference... though really, it's the internet, so prepare for mockery whatever your opinion is...

You have freedom of speach to have any opinion you want I have the the freedom of speach to insult you for it. That is freedom. You either are grown up enough to accept the fact that this world is full of childish people who will insult you or your just another childish person insisting everyone think like YOU>

of course not...doesn't mean it wont happen. I guess if you're opinion is the world is flat it would be more along the lines of ridiculed but hey whatever. There's always someone trying to get a rise out of someone so even if it was the popular opinion someones always stupid enough...
