1. The Vista setup program (when you boot from the Vista DVD) will help you to partition the drive and make space for Vista (you will need AT LEAST 20 gigs free). The partitioning program is fairly easy to use, so you shouldn't have any major problems.

2. It should not slow your computer down, as long as your partitions both have enough free space on them for a swap file (you have a lot of RAM, so you won't need a big swap file). Any slowness you see will probably be on the part of Vista, as it still has some bugs in it.

are you a fool.... before you ever think of installing Vista buy some computer mags they might convince you not to touch vista with a barge pole...until at least next year after service pack 1 is publicly releast
Do some searching on here Q&A just to see what problems Vista users are having.. anyway if you want problems with your computer go ahead and install that wonderful bug ridden operating system then you can come back here and ask people how you can fix your Vista problems

I wouldn't. But check your manufacturer's website to see what they say.

Or use the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

Hey, that External drive might not work with Vista.

Good luck and Happy Computing
