I would allocate $20,000; however, if it is a business process patent, they are taking 4-5 years for consideration permitting others to use your idea in the mean time. In addition, if it is a short lived life cycle idea, filing the patent will mean others can use it and by the time the patent clears, if it clears, it could be worthless. There are alternatives to patents, but you need a good intellectual property attorney to work through them.
