Must reads - His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman (The Golden Compass) and Sabriel/Lirael/Abhorsen by Garth Nix
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley (stick out the first chapter)
Give Diana Wynn Jones a try - I liked Hexwood and Deep Secret
I really couldn't get into Terry Pratchett for a long time - but now I LOVE him, especially the Ankh-Morpork books. If you've tried him and didn't like him, I recommend trying back in a few years.

Good luck!! I love Harry Potter too :)

I love Harry Potter too. There is this series called "Sweep" that you should check out. It's by Kate Tiernen (not sure I spelt it right), About a girl who realizes she's a witch. Only it's more about Wicca and not so much wands and stuff. There are tons of books in the series and the books switch every once in a while to a different persons perspective. I used to love it, but I haven't read them for a while.

I love the Tortall series by Tamora Pierce, particularly the Song of the Lioness Quartet. It's about a girl who disguises herself as a boy in order to become a knight. Along the way, she has to deal with hiding the normal issues of growing up, her fear of her own magical powers and the possible consequences of not using them, fear of discovery, and the struggles of her knighthood training. It's an excellent series.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diane Wynn Jones is an great read as well. It tells the story of Sophie, the eldest child in her family, who is turned into an old woman by the witch of the waste. She joins up with the wizard Howl and his fire demon Calcifur as their housekeeper and must find a way to break the curse.

The Sword and the Crown and The Blue Sword by Robin MckInley are great, as are her fairytale retellings.

If you want something magical there is the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, "THe Hobbit", and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. There is also "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis. I have always found these some good readings too. I couldn't put these books down.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
Wicked by Gregory Maguire
The Dark Hills Divide by Patrick Carman

These will all lead to others.

Take it easy.

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, and a short review of each book.

I hope this helps.
