I currently have an apartment stacked washer dryer combo, but want to purchase a separate washer and separate dryer, but the guy at Sears said I needed a 220 outlet for the dryer. Does it indicate on the circuit breaker what kind of outlet is attached to that circuit?

Look at your circuit box.
Hopefully they marked the breakers for you on the paper on the door. If the one(s) for the dryer is 1 breaker, then it's 110.. if it's 2 stuck together, it's a 220.

If the breaker for the dryer takes up 2 spaces in the breaker box, it's 220

no longer sufficient information. we could desire to make effective we are on the comparable website while we talk approximately "one section" or "the different". permit's see if i will clarify this with ASCII symbols. right it rather is a 30 amp dryer plug: / L The "L" in my drawing is in all risk backwards. Your outlet perhaps the different way up or sideways. the placement on the wall or the floor makes no distinction. What DOES count number is that each and each "leg" of the opening is hooked as much as the service panel properly. each and each "/" or "" is warm potential. you may desire to have 230 AC volts while measuring between those 2 legs. The "L" is impartial. you may desire to don't have to any extent further than 116 AC volts while measuring between "L" and one in each and every of the different legs. If voltages are incorrect at this factor (maximum in all risk) provide up and employ an electrician to exact cord the opening in case you, or your pal, can no longer do it. If the voltages are staggering the pigtail perhaps under pressure incorrect on the dryer. this could properly be a touch complicated situation to decrease to rubble and, if that is so, it sounds like extra beneficial than one dryer could have been under pressure incorrect (which makes this subject much extra no longer likely). SO... first i prefer to be responsive to what the voltage is on the opening between the "/" and "" legs, then we will proceed. Brian

A 2-pole breaker is easy to identify. Make sure it is not the one for the range or the water heater.

Your breaker should also have stamped on it "30" or "40" indicating the amps that breaker has going through it.

Look for the manufacturer, model and serial number. (Should be inside the machine.) See if you can find a website or a dealer. A phone call to dealer might be the easiest since you could just ask directly.

there might be a sticker somewhere that you can see, if not either ask the apartment manager, or just pull it out a little and look.

It should, but I'd ask the apartment landlord to make sure. This is something you have to be totally sure about.
