From the way i read it, maybe he said that because he felt a little bit of jealousy. He probably figured that you had mentioned about meeting the several guys to get him a little jealous and missing you. Maybe he felt that you were trying to pity him when you said "but no one can compare to you"? I think he also may have thought that you moved on so he might have said "Take Care of yourself" as a defense mechanism. i would email him back in a couple days just to let him know you were sincere, you care about him and that overall your still interested in him. hope it helps!
