What must life have been like for a woman during this time? What kind of obstacles would you think that she would overcome to have such an impact on history?

I imagine it was very hard being as women were most likely not respected. Or maybe she was unaware since her parents gave her up at age 8 and she still seemed to lead such a full life. The fact that she did so many things, many artistically inclined, I think some of her major obstacles would be having grown up in such religious confines. I obviously don't know what it was like in the 12th century, but I can't imagine those at a monastery were very understanding of one so artistic. Though I guess they must have been since she's now known as Saint Hildegard (I'm not sure if that's an official Sainthood though or just out of fondness). I would think she'd really have to overcome her feelings of abandonment, maybe how she initially felt about feeling artistic (I link all her accomplishments together in this though I know it's not quite all encompassing), I'm sure she had to overcome her intial hesitations about how to go about presenting her works and opinions to others, it's inspiring :-)
