whenever I run ipconfig...the ip address is displayed. However, when i run ping yahoo.com it get a error message. What should I do to get my wireless to work?

SYSTEM: windows xp
computer: dell laptop

come on experts what should i do?

the result is ping request could not be found. try again , something to that effect.

please give some step by step proceedures if you can!!

The internet works when i connect the computer to the dsl modem . I follow all the steps but its just not connecting via the wireless router

If you are assigned a local IP address, but you cannot ping an outside site, you may have a problem with your internet connection. If possible, try a different DNS server (Domain Name Server).

ping www.yahoo.com has no real relation to wireless. Even if you see your IP address with ipconfig, it won't tell you if your wireless is not working.

Make sure your wireless card is turned on, you should see a light on when the wireless card is on, if it is not on, look for the button with a radio antenna icon on it, and press the function(FN) key and that icon key to turn the wireless on. If the wireless is turned on you can try an ipconfig/flushdns then ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew and then reboot.

Or...you could try pushing the reset on the router.

try pinging www.yahoo.com
whats the error messege. try adding the www.
