If im trying to get rid of somebody clingy , i avoid their calls. I make my answers to their questions short and to the point, remain friendly but walk fast and avoid eye contact. haha :)

how could you call a person you don't like in the first place as your FRIEND? or were you friends before and he did something you didn't like? anyway, the best way is the direct approach. tell him the reason why you don't like him in the first place (if he was never your friend) or whatever he did that pissed you off (if you were really friends before). as you said, your subtle hints aren't working. if he knows that something he did/does is not to your liking, he might refrain from doing it if he really wants to preserve your friendship. people change. it's better to "repair" a friendship than "make" a new enemy. if he doesn't change his bad behavior then you have every reason to avoid him. however, the reason you don't like him is coming from you (like you can't stand the way he looks, dresses, etc) then my advice is for you to be more tolerant of other people's individuality.

If subtle hints haven't worked, then you'll have to be less subtle. If you have a temper, lose it! If this person is annoying you, just say look you get on my ******* nerves damn! I think that would be clear enough. Or you can say that he's a loser and get lost.

Just tell him to get lost.

Hes too dense to take subtle hints. Tell him straight

The best way to know what to do is imagine that you are in his position and you have a "friend" who doesn't like you and wants to end your friendship......

How would you like him to tell you? Or how would you like him to handle it?

Realise that despite what he has done or what you don't like about him, he's still a human being with feelings and aside from what you think about him, he deserves to be treated decently.

It's hard to do but just be upfront with the guy.
He'll respect you for being honest and you'll feel better for not being a jerk by ignoring him. Also, this is valuable practice for breaking up with a girl.

Stop contacting this person. Don't return phone calls or text messages.. Eventually they'll catch on..
