I current work a normal 40 hrs a week. I work OT occassionally as it is usually unlimited at my job. However some days I don't feel like it. My job made it mandatory for about 3 months about a year ago and then they stopped and made it only voluntary. Now because they aren't getting enough people volunteering, they are saying it may go back to mandatory. Is it legal for a job to force OT? Any websites or articles that prove it is illegal?

You may want to check out the US Dept of Labor. I think it varied per state. Sorry. I hope the pay is decent.

Your first port of call should be your employment contract. Have a read through that and see if there's any mention of overtime. If it's not in there, they almost definately can't fire you for not wanting to work it. And if it is covered in there, there's not a huge amount you can do, short of politely requesting to be let off.

As a general matter, it's legal. If you have a legally recognized "good cause" to refuse, and you get fired, you may get Unemployment benefits. However, you will have no basis for a legal cause of action against the employer.
