hmm registry cleaners are quite dangerous if not used carefully.
Did you ran antivirus like avast(free from avast dot com) and a spyware check like spy sweeper? Also check for root kits (avg has a free root kit detector at grisoft dot com). Finally do another check with malware detector from comodo dot com.

If the amount of errors is too big, maybe reformatting will be the best way to go. I understand that maybe you do not wish to purchase a new disc to reformat, but it will save you a lot fo headaches when trying to fix the problems.

If still convinced on trying to fix, you could start by using system mechanic 7, donwload the trial and run the full set of test and fix the errors. Next download live onecare and run it, it should fix another set of problems. Finally you could run RegCure, but only clean the green safe to delete entries.

Best of luck

You're just in rinky dinky good shape aren't you? You are in a world of hurt, with no way out. Go to best buy and have them make you a fat 32 winme startup floppy its a hell of a lot cheaper than a new xp cd that way you can format but only as fat 32.

Use Windows System Restore to "reset" the settings back a few days or weeks.

This won't delete major files like software or media, but will set windows back the way it was.

Start/ all programs/ accessories/ system tools/ system restore

Go to the store where you bought your pc and ask for the address of the dealer.

Send the dealer a letter asking to buy a recovery cd.
