Tie-rod end is wore out. If you want to fix it the right way you'd have to replace the whole tie-rod, they are machined to a specific size then through a lot of pressure, they're forced together. If your a poor boy like me, I unbolted the knob end and took it out all together. Then I drilled a hole through the other end and hooked them together with a loosely attached bolt and two nuts (the second one to keep the first from "backing off")!!! Mine has been working fine for two years and counting.

The tie rod ends are replaceable, there are different sized ends tho- id remove the whole arm, take it to a tractor parts place ( tractor supply has them- the old central tractor) - see which one will fit - before removing the end- mark it with paint to put it back on at the right depth. make sure the wheels are straight as well as steering wheel before removing the arm. Id get a greasegun, with one of the needle tips to squirt some grease in the socket , so itll steer easily. Probably wouldnt hurt to grease up the are where the steering shaft attaches to the steering arm either.

I can't remember what the little ball and socket joint is called but yes, you can replace it. In fact, that IS what your problem is. The same thing happened not only to my step-father's rider, but also to two of my radio controlled cars too. You may also wish to replace the arm on the left side as well and the right side ball socket too. Just remember to use good molybdenum/lithium based grease when re-assembling things.

The ball and socket are a set. If you are having problems with it, I would suggest replacing the set. It is very simple to do and replacement parts are not costly. You can go be the store or repair center to obtain the parts or you can order them online at www3.sears.com
search "Parts" and type in your model #. go to the diagram to find what part you need and find the note number in the list, and your done!

no the entire unit needs to be replaced as in any machinery that uses thes types of control arms both parts are a unit. Best thing is to go in to the dealer and look at their parts book if your uncertain. Any good dealer will be happy to show you....Lets
