Hi Hello word,
It depends. If it's an absence of reasonable time frame..Yes, the heart grows fonder..But if the absence becomes too long, the feelings will begin to ebb away..The persons involved have already gotten used to the absence. It has settled into the everyday life..It's not "absence" anymore, it has turned into "not being there all the time". Eventually other people will begin to fill up ur time, ur attention..That's why so many long-distance love affairs, marriages, friendships fizzle out coz the absence simply stopped being such..They simply aren't there most of the time anymore..Case in pt: A father who works abroad for many years & sees their children only 10 to 15 days a year..Ask the child if there's still a residue of feeling left. Chances are the child stopped missing his dad..Because he is so much behind in his everyday life now. When dad calls the child will simply ask for his "pasalubong" or "gift"..They stopped asking "when will u be back??".In fact this is where resentment of being left out sets in. Iv had friends who are like that. The father texted his kid everyday..U know what the child replied?? a simple "k" (for ok).

It can and at the same time it can lead to the heart to wander too. It is how both you and your significant other treat and how you believe the situation should be. If I may give an example: If you believe truly and completely that this person is the only one for you and visa versa, then you'll have no difficulties with your hearts straying from one another over the distances you are apart. If either one or both of you DON'T feel this way, then love may have a very large up hill battle whilst you're both separated from each other.

no it doesn't. Its the expectation/anticipation of the presence that makes the heart grow fonder.

This is interesting. I am not sure about you, but I do know that most people appreciate the value of something when they're gone forever. It's funny how people recognize the importance of something when you can no longer have them or be with them.

Do you miss the taste of coffee when you go a week without it?
Do you miss the smell of fresh mountain air when you move?
Do you miss the feeling your lover provides you with?

YES!

Not neccessarily. After you are apart long enough, you could come to realise that you dont need the person as much as you thought you did.
