First of all: I would NEVER live in Manila even if it were free! It is the most absolute worst city to get into or out of if you are riding public transport or driving yourself!
I live in Balibago, Pampanga province; I have a 3 bdrm, 2 bath apartment $170 a month, all the imenities totalled cost me about another $170 a month, I have 2 full-time, live-in maids (YEAH BUDDY!) combined salary $100 a month!
There was a time when the Philippines was considered the Jewel of Asia, now it is the armpit of Asia, mainly because of the corruption!

I think the previous answer)s) listed the cost of necessities to live in Manila. May I just say you need to add a generous amount to that, depending on your style, so that you can enjoy Manila. The P25,000 base is the "cost of surviving". Add generous amounts for "cost of living" not just surviving.

you can rent a nice, furnished 2/2 condo with pool & security for about 25,000 P /month. taxi cabs are everywhere, and cheap, starting at 40P [$1]; short trips are $2; 1 hour across town in traffic maybe only $6. busses are very cheap and run along the major roads; jeepneys are everywhere and super cheap [8-20p], but also hot, noisy and crowded. tricycle motorbike side cars are very convienient for short trips, door to door service for 20 to 50p. commuting to work is a major hastle, so look for your condo very near your place of work. Manila has very high crime rates, it is not safe. It is roughtly equivalent to living in Detroit, USA. You may find a safe condo or subdivision, but you will still be exposed to high crime once you go out, and an upscale nieghborhood may be a magnet for criminals. Frankly, it would be safer to live in terrorist ridden Mindanao. Wealthy families like to leave Manila on weekends, and go to nearby Laguna or Tagaytay, where it is cooler in the mountains. costs: electric 4000 P/month, aircon in 1 bedroom at night, occasionally. water 800 P/month gas 600P / month cable TV + internet 1500P / month cell phone 500P / month & up, depending on voice calls vs. text msgs

for an average middle income single person living in makati the costs would be as follows:

1. rent - P 10,000 - 15,000.00 for a studio condo ($225-335)

2. electricity - P5,000 ($115)

3. water - P500 ($11)

4. food - would depend but about P2000 per week for groceries would be a minimum ($45)

5. transportation costs - would also vary but if you had a car and lived in the city (and do not go out of town) you'd need about P500 to P1000 for gas (would also depend on the type of car). if you chose to ride public transportation within the city (no cabs) it'd be about P30 to P50 per day ($.60-1.10)

6. others would be phone costs which would vary (cell phones for a plan would be about P1,200 ($26) per month and a landline phone would cost about ($21) per month. and dont forget pocket money for everyday expenses!

you'd need a minimum of about P25,500 ($567) to P30,000 ($665) per month to live comfortably.

of course there are cheaper options you could choose like for rent you could stay at a dorm type apartment which would only cost about P5,000/mo ($112) plus a minimun cost for electricity and water. you'd still have to pay for food and transportation tho.

dont forget that an entry level job (call center operator or secretarial job) here in the phils only offers about P12,000 to P15,000 per month which is why a lot of single people still live with their parents. it's the only way we can make ends meet!!!

cost of living outside the city is much cheaper.

hope that was the info you were looking for :-)

Comparable to the other big cities in the world. The prices are exorbitant - living in the metropolis costs a lot of money. You need to earn at least 30,000pesos a month to survive. But if you want to live a very comfortable life, it needs more than that.

quite high. apartment / condominium rental alone will bleed you dry. then comes the transpo expenses if you commute or gas if you have your own car. food is also expensive but it would of course depend on where you will eat.

the starting salary is usually at Php8,500. god knows how these people try to make ends meet. thus call centers are quite popular as they give higher salaries.
