For the groups you mentioned; Id say the O'Jays and Temptations are the best of them. For single performers Barry White is the ultimate. Marvin Gaye Im not sure which category he falls into but he's there with the best of them.
Parliament, the Ohio Players, Hot Chocolate, Average White Band dont rate as they are all mostly known for one peticular hit song.
Out of all of them Barry White and Marvin Gaye.
But you also didnt mention Johnnie Taylor or Tyrone Davis or Tower of Power.
