if you dont they can put any bad thing you do or say in it and the law says you can get and see you file any time you ask , if a manager gets on to you they can put in the file that it was averble warning and use it later. check your files people warning

Here is a little added bonus I found out about my file. There is one in human resourses, there is another in my supervisors office and another in my directors, and one in the training department. None of these have the same info. In my department, you can only view your file with 24 hours notice (and they have been known to remove things only for that time) and are not allowed to make copies of anything.

That is basic common sense. However, most people have a great indication of what is in their personnel files. It is a smarter idea to check in order to make certain that you aren't getting screwed financially, such as the corporation crediting your taxes to the wrong social security number, etc.
