I saw this report. It was an initial report from a single doctor's study (the report was nice to mention many other things have given hope to the cause of SIDs but come up unfounded in subsequent studies). Basically what they said was this doctor found that the babies who have a significant hearing loss in their right ear compared to their left (the difference was 4 something) they are more likely to experience SIDS. A friend of mines baby died from sids about seven months ago. It was very sad. There are more and more studies being done on this, so maybe one day they will find the exact cause. I think there may be various reasons for this. I did not see the report, but maybe you could post the link, I would not mind seeing it.

Nothing can compare to the grief parents and family experience with the death of an infant. Those of us in community pediatrics are also heavily impacted when SIDS occurs in one of our patients.

This report will spur additional research. The question is "what to do in the meantime?" Home monitoring for apparent life threatening events has been a nightmare for parents and physicians alike. Surely there is a better way.
