Yes and many sharks have been caught in Wilmington and along NC beaches. In fact there was one in atlantic beach just last week.

However--what is important is the statistics. How LIKELY is it that you will be attacked by a shark? Nearly twice as likely as winning the NC lotto.

Sharks come in all sizes. Is your fear been bitten by a shark, or by a shark large enough to maim or disfigure you? This is an unrealistic fear and logically you know that your odds are hundred times more likely to be in a fatal car accident on the way to the beach than being attacked by a shark.

The number of shark attack deaths is outrageously low.

Now this is just white sharks but seriously look at the time span

In 06, there were 38 shark attacks in the US. Divide that by the amount of coast line we have and the amount of people that go swimming each year in the ocean and we are literally talking about the odds of winning a lottery.

So don't allow this irrational fear to ruin your trip.

Yes - sand sharks and sightings of tiger sharks and others as well- just this year the lifeguards at myrtle beach closed down a few areas b/c sharks were feeding too close to the shore and Wilmington is not that far away- a shark can go as fast as 40 or maybe more mph! Just always be careful and do not go too far out!
