like having an entire month dedicated to their history. What about the native americans? do they not deserve a month for their history? after all they were here first and suffered more persecution than the african americans did. All of their land was forcibly taken from them forced on small reservations and some entire tribes were killed to extinction. And yet we give more to the african americans than any other minority that deserves it more.

pachl, the sweet irony of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday is that it is also General Robert E. Lee's Birthday as well. So those who like it can say they are celebrating MLK Jr's Birthday while those that don't can say they are celebrating General Lee's Birth day

Well I know there is one, however the government doesn't really make it known like it does Black History month.
It all has to do with Blacks having the NAACP which has been a fantastic lobby group which has been very very effective at using the slavery heritage and civil rights movement as public speeches.

You're right though...Native American Month should be a much bigger event.

Hillary> Indians didn't get an offer to go home and a country bought for them like the slaves did (Liberia), and the Indians were also treated like dirt and basically enslaved since multiple times were told "Do X or we will kill you all" in military and sociological matters

August is Native American history month and has been so since the first Bush presidency...

Although the first "American Indian Day" was declared by the State of New York in 1916, a month long recognition of Native Americans was not achieved until 1990. In that year, President George Bush declared the first National American Indian Heritage Month on August 3. His action was based on legislation presented by Senator Daniel K. Inouye (D-Hawaii) and Congressional Delegate Eni Faleomavaega (D-American Samoa). In each of the four previous years, Congress had enacted legislation designating "American Indian Heritage Week." This consecutive legislation allowed for the establishment of a month-long observance.

The purpose of National American Indian Heritage Month is to honor and recognize the original peoples of this land. The 1996 proclamation details their contributions to the past and to the future:

Even more embarrassing is the fact that so many of the accomplishments they credit blacks for is complete fiction. In order to boost the self esteem of blacks, especially impressionable children, a whole mythology of great black inventors and scientists was created, but it's mainly bogus and highly exaggerated.

But even worse is having Martin Luther King Day.

Aside from Christmas and Washington's birthday, (which is now generally just referred to as "Presidents Day" since Abraham Lincoln's birthday is no longer celebrated), no Federal holiday celebrates any single individual.

Even when we celebrated Washington's birthday, it was due to his honored status as a founder of our country.

Why should Martin Luther King Jr. be given this huge, unprecedented honor above ex-Presidents, and other people like Benjamin Franklin or Ronald Reagan, who helped improve our country so greatly?

King had unsavory ties to Communists (no laughing matter), and, if you read the website below, will see really abused women. He was not the guy you see in all the fotos, the saintly, determined man with the crisply starched white shirt. He was not the type of person to whom we should be giving such a high honor.

Mainly, blacks receive this special treatment because they are a big voting block for the Democrats, who use the lure of "freebies" (social services, etc.) to ensure their votes.

Before anyone wants to shout "racist !" at me, let me stop you in your Liberal tracks by mentioning that I am definitely not, and hereby pledge to donate $1,000 if Condaleezza Rice will accept the Republican nomination for President.

I have asked this exact question so many times some people accuse me of having a broken record in my pocket, when the Whites came to America, they could not have survived without the Indians help to get them thru the winter, and took their land forced them onto reservations not fit for most animals, and starved them unmercifully, when we owe so very much t o them, on the other hand the blacks were brought here from Africa a land that was much more harsh in many ways and the majority of them would not have lived to reach age 30 as the life expectancy was so low due to lack of food and sickness, and tribes who fought constantly, kidnapping murdering , cannibalism, etc, many say the white man did them a favor by bringing them to the U,S, eve as slaves, After the civil war they had the opportunity to return to Africa, free, the U,S, even built a lot of housing for them, but very few wanted to leave, so many of the houses just rotted down, and really what have the blacks ever did for the U,S, except riot and burn and collect welfare?? yes the Indians have gotten a rotten deal in every aspect,

Everyone seems to forget history, and the Native Americans are very proud people, they keep to themselves on their $hitty land the government gave them and try to make a living with their casinos. they have their own beliefs and are very spiritual and deep people.
I also think because they were screwed by the white man so often way back when and as you say some tribes are now extinct, they figure its just easier to stay to themselves. Native American history is also very interesting as all history is to me.
And it just wasn't the African Americans who were slaves, the Chinese, the Italians, etc.. Anyway, I could go on and I am really NOT trying to offend anyone so please don/t send me any hate mail, this is all my opinion. Personally i think there is good and bad in All Races and it doesn't matter what race or color you are, as long as you are a good person.

it extremely is not plenty "specific therapy" as equivalent therapy. you're saying that we are all in a similar school rooms, gaining a similar preparation, etc. in spite of the shown fact that, regrettably we are actually not given a similar possibilities. there have been countless learn that tutor that if there have been 2 interest applicants, with a similar preparation and credentials, the only distinction being that one became white and the different guy or woman became black...the white applicant is greater probable to get the interest. this is obviously unfair, try to be conscious of that there became some reason to place those regulations in to action, it wasn't carried out for exciting. Do your homework, Chief -- it's November. http://www.defenselink.mil/specials/nativeamerican01/inner.html

And by the way, Black History Month is only a very recent development -- plus it's in the shortest month of the year. Not exactly a tribute for the centuries of forced chattel slavery and oppression.

WE get November
BUT
It has to be done by "Presidential Decree" EVERY YEAR.
If the president forgets or just doesn't wanna do it we don't get it. The following link is a brief history from IHS. Indian Health Service
