My girlfriend's daughter ran up her cell phone to $300. My girlfriend warned her daughter about peak minutes but she didn't listen. My girlfriend took the phone away from her temporarily, but still allows her to use the house phone and text whenever she wants. We have been dating for 8 months now so I decided to give my girlfriend my opinion and said "You shouldn't let her use any phone unless it's an emergency." Then my girlfriend snapped back at me and said "How I discipline my child is my business!"
I then calmly explained that I'm only thinking about our future. I told her "Your child isn't even in high school so you have to teach her before it's too late" I explained that I didn't want us going through the drama of a problem child and I told her that she wasn't doing her daughter any good by not teaching her. She simply got upset with me and I can tell that this will surely be the end of us.
How should I handle this?

I certainly understand that you was trying to help. And I agree with you also.........
But your girlfriend (And most moms) do not like to be told how to discipline their kids.
So if I was you I would simply tell her you are sorry for butting in and do not want to put a strain on the relationship.
That you care for her and her daughter and didn't realize it would upset her so much, with what you said.
Hope all works out for you.
