Free drawing, free painting, or free writing.
Let your mind roam as you do this and don't worry about how it looks or sounds.
Allow yourself to add whatever comes to mind.
For instance take a simple object like an apple, or bowl of fruit, and draw it out adding whatever comes to mind. You can play with colours as well - what goes with what colour - in writing just start on a blank page and write whatever words come to mind.
Creativity is an exercise that you develop. When we are children we are creative from the get go and somewhere along the line we lose it if we were discouraged to use this gift.
Some people play with ink - ink blots and draw something either around the shape or attached to this.
Creativity is really up to the person.

1) Study in the area of your creative outlet.
2) Make friends and hang out with the most creative people you can find and especially those who share your chosen creative outlet.
Like I'm a musician. I hang out with other musicians, dancers, rollerskaters, actors, authors, photographers, painters. They all contribute something to my understanding and level of creativity.
