When I say and use the word "thingy"

It usually means my mind's like a dinghy

Symbolic of floating away from shore

Wishing I could recall certain words a little bit more.

So, in answer to your question, by saying "thingy" what am I referring to?

That "whatchamacallit" ~ OR ~ "whozeewhatzit" ~ OR ~
"whatever the heck it is?

Hoping that you'll understand and know I'm referring to just plain "THIS" !!!!

you say thingy whern your refering to something that you dont know the name of it. or something that you know the name of but cant think of the proper name of it. usually people use thingy when the object doesnt hold any meaning to the person who's using it such as: a person who know's nothing about car's would say. sue can you get that thingy over there left to the jack.

The subject of the conversation? Say we're talking about a large, complicated device with a long, complicated name. We would just call it a thingy. Or, we don't know the name of the large complicated device; then we would call it a thingy as well.
