Judging from some of the viral marketing campaigns, this Joker is going to be much more cerebral than Jack Nichelson's version...which is just fine by me. The Joker is supposed to be insane...but also a criminal genius. I would liken him to an evil, slightly more capable version of Jack Sparrow: Everyone thinks he's a complete nutjob, yet he always pulls things off that show off his genius.

This Joker's face features a carved smile, a notable difference from any other previous Joker. I'm curious as to how this happens. Does he do it himself? Is it a "chelsea grin," something done to him by a gang for revealing too much information? We don't know yet. But it looks menacing, grisly....everything the Joker should be in this series of films.

I think he will be cold and calculating, with a very dark sense of humor. There will be jokes here and there, but they won't be anything like what Nichelson rattled off. This Joker will be scary.

I have no exactly sure, but I'll bet it'll be a darker, edgier Joker than previously portrayed on film or on TV. I was actually in Chicago a couple of weeks ago, where they are filmly some of the "Gotham" shots and saw some of the Gotham Police Department vehicles, but not much else. They did most of the shooting at night, when I was passed out.

Whilst I do think that Jack Nicholson's performance will be very difficult to beat, I think that the direction Christopher Nolan will take will be the same as the last film and the re-imagining of Batman; dark and gritty. The only clues that we have are that in the last film the character is decribed as 'homocidal' and has a taste for the theatrics. I think that the character will be played from quite a realistic direction; less heavily relying on jokes and black humour, and more on genuine scares.
This are of course only my thoughts, and we'll have to wait and see what Mr Nolan serves up in due time.
