Why is it accurate to think of each human being as the owner of a library of ancient information?

Man is the latest species.Man, like other animals, is biologically linked to the organisms that lived in the past.Therefore man is the repository of the ancient genes.

Because the genome is a collection/record of past processes, some still working and forming proteins. Some not working anymore and called " junk. " Are genes are truly immortal, as they pass on information; not themselves.
