I don't think ford has a very bad reputation, Ford has more that 100 models, ford is good in fact. It may have a silly reputation because all of its cars are really expensive!

with all american cars, the second something happens to them and a recall is issued, the news media is all over it, making it sound like the world is coming to an end.
but when an import car has a recall, you'll never know about it unless a lot of people die.
Remember when the Explorer had their "rollover" problems. Ford blamed the Firestone tires, everyone else blamed the design. I'm sorry. it was the tires, they were shoddy from the start. Millions of other Explorers didn't roll. Like what 37 out of 100,000?
So Firestone recalled their tires. if Firestone's claim that the Explorer was faulty, why did they recall nationwide 5 different models of tire? I was fortunate enough to get $400 from them from a set I had on my Ranger.
My truck never rolled over. I don't like Firestone or bridgestone anyway.
Ford Trucks are built to be best in class and they are constantly winning awards. The chassis are built extremely strong and can withstand tons of punishment. the imports can't come close when it comes to strength. toyota can try, but their commercials are staged, and believe me, they are.
As for gas mileage, american cars suck. American's like power, big engines, they want to add modification to the engine, exhaust, tweak the computer, beefy up the suspension, etc.. all that comes with a price.
Have I ever broke down with my Ford? Never have. I perform regular maintenance and change the oil regularly. It's pretty much a no brainer, and I don't use cheap parts, and have NEVER been to the dealership for ANY services.
Those that keep going to the dealer for service work, warranty or otherwise, usually end up going back for some reason or another.. it's the greed of the service advisor, they get a commission, as does the tech.
Find a reputable shop, you'll pay less and get better service.

When I had my 1964 1/2 Mustang the weight was poorly distributed making it spin on wet roads and the transmission was very weak and I replaced it 3 times. These problems were fixed when I got my 1981 Mustang convertible, drove it for about 120K mi before I replaced it with a Ford Ranger truck, I never had a problem with it but decided to replace it with a Thunderbird. Put over 100,000 mi on it had a couple of minor problem but they were covered by the warranty. Replaced the Tbird with another Mustang which I drove for a short time only, as I needed to tow my boat so I got a Ford F-150 instead. Never had any trouble with the F 150 except that every time my wife drove it she had a wreck (3 times)
Now my wife has a Jaguar X type and I am trying to find the right colour Jag XJ8 for myself. Oh by the way Jaguar is now a Ford product and is you read the reviews they always say the problems the Jags had in the 80's and early 90's were corrected when Ford took over. I guess that is why Ford is the oldest continuously producing car manufacturer in the world.

bad reputation doesn't just happen, it from facts. millions of fords on the road and everyone will probably break down in 3 years. Where as my Honda I've had for 10 years and all I ever did was get oil change and change tires. We all know ford can't last that long without some kinda major problem. focus winning car of year 3 years in a row. Those awards don't mean much, I don't care how many awards they give.. What sells car is public opinion, and reputation.

I know that fords are absolutely crap by experience and my advice is to never ever buy a ford KA especially a T reg 2000 one, Ok my car is 7 years old and has just clocked in at 71,000 miles but that really shouldent mean it has so much RUST! its absolutely covered and has been for the last two years that i have owned it. Other random things have also decided to break on me too, front speakers, power steering, suspension, radiator fan and finally an altinator, So really don't buy one unless like me you are fooled by its cute looks. I haven't even mentioned its speed, or lack of any speed, it is slower than cars with smaller engines than itself, it can quite easily be overtaken by a 1 litre engined car. and in high winds the car sways all over the motorway because of its weird shape it seams to catch every gust of wind. also the size of the its incredibly small boot too, it must be the smallest boot in any modern car, you really do get what you pay for with this car!! not much

Maybe , because their automatic transmissions, do not last.
A4LD used on Explorers, Mustangs, Ranger s and Bronco II.
Also the Taurus had a bad transmission, and was very time
consuming to replae or repair.
The cars are overly complex and made out of cheap materials
that have been poorly Engineered.
Maybe after all the corruption of management is filtering down
and affecting the end product.

How many cars a company sells has nothing to do with what happens to their reputation. How often the cars break down does. From the early 70s to just a few years ago Ford's reliability was comparable to cars made in the Ukraine - they seem to be doing better now, but only time will tell.
It takes a long time to clean a tarnished reputation.

The American Fords are well designed and pretty, the UK fords well unreliable, expensive, rust out quick and are generally bad quality. Not to say we havent produced some good ones in the past. Changes in metals and general bad workmanship these days.

their not crap, they are just not hot or trendy enough anymore,Fords were more appealing in the 80's and 90's,with big engines in light cars ,legends like the Capri, the Granada,scorpio,rs2000's ,rs 3100,cosworth 500 and the Cortinas, which are basically the Mondeo of today, siezed bolts ,rattly engines, poor performance and handling v6 Mondeos are a let down compared to a Nissan Primera's handling, and Nissans are cheap, well be all and end all,Ford need to spice things up with more designs on Retro, and mad handling, fun cars again, that are easy to repair and modify without all the fuss of ecu's and control devices, they need to get raw and fun again.

fords only have a bad rep with chevy lovers...i have owned most every kind of ford and lots of other makes for over 40 years..ford has been the longest lasting most dependable of the vehicles i have owned and the easiest to work on when repairs were needed....i have owned over 3000 vehicles having bought and sold for many years...ford trucks were the best selling for over 20 years! having just recently been beaten for the first time!
