I changed my name and I'm looking to move (out-of-state). How long, after I apply, will it take to receive my new social security card? Keep in mind that I didn't lose it. I'm doing it because I need the name changed.

I'm worried that I'll have to wait months to move out.

I changed my name the same day when I got married by going to the SSA branch office with all of my documentation. I think it only took about 30 days for the new card to appear. You could have it sent to a friend who could forward it to you.
Good luck and be safe!

they are pretty quick with it. I got mine in about a week. They tell you at the ss office if it takes more than two weeks contact them, so it shouldn't take more than that....

Visit your local SS office. It will be done immediately.
Give them your new mailing address.
